Wedding Anniversary Flowers Selection Ideas

Author: Gail Leino

There are many kinds of Anniversary Flowers in use today and each kind is designated to a specific year and has a different meaning.

For the fifth anniversary it's traditional to decorate with or give Daisy's, Daffodils are for the tenth anniversary and Roses for the fifteenth. Daisies imply innocence, purity and loyal love, which is fitting for a couples fifth anniversary as the marriage is still relatively new. Make sure to give several Daffodils' which means joy and great happiness, because a single Daffodil implies misfortune for the marriage. Roses come in when the marriage is starting to gain its full flush of maturity and imply love still remains after fifteen years.

Roses of differing colors also have different meanings. Red is for love and respect, light pink is grace and interestingly sends the message 'Believe me,' while dark pink is for thankfulness. Light purple roses are for love at first sight and signify the partner is still enchanted, orange means that the spouse is enthusiastic and spellbound by their partner. There are many other colors of roses with other meanings. A single rose in full bloom simply says, "I still love you."

Flowers for the other major anniversaries are; Iris for the twenty fifth year, Sweet Pea for the thirtieth, Nasturtium for the fortieth and Violets on the Fiftieth wedding anniversary. Iris's are for wisdom, faith and hope. Sweet Pea's for lasting or blissful pleasure. Nasturtiums interestingly are for victory and conquest, most likely a conquest over the troubles that naturally occur in marriage over the years. Violets symbolize modesty and faithfulness.

There are also flowers for many of the in-between wedding anniversaries, and you can easily look them up. If you're just trying to find the right flower for the first anniversary get your spouse some Pansies.
